Training Tracks

Clinical Track

Clinical track is geared towards fellows with a clinical focus wanting to become clinically active academicians. It is three years of clinical training with limited research time is offered interspaced within rotations in the 2nd and 3rd years. Research time may not be fully protected. Many fellows in this track may chose a fourth year to obtain additional training in an area of focus such as EUS/ERCP, transplant hepatology, or IBD.

Research Track (NIH T32-funded)

Research track is geared towards fellows striving to become a NIH-funded physician scientist and consists of 2-3 years of research training in addition to a year of clinical training. During the research training, time is spent under the auspices of a mentor and is fully protected through funds from our Division's NIH-training grant. However, many previous fellows have obtained additional funding as a first step towards future independence.

Typically, a mentor is chosen at the onset of the fellowship or during the clinical year. Research may employ basic, translational, or outcomes methods and is not specifically limited to the GI Division. Mentors do have to be members of the GI Training Grant.
